Alumni, join us for our virtual choir!
1. The sheet music and practice mp3s for "My Old Kentucky Home" are at the bottom of this page. Even if you *think* you still remember your part, be sure to rehearse it thoroughly, especially because I have made a few changes to the parts this year.
2. This project is going to require two things from you: You're going to submit an AUDIO recording of you singing with your track and also a VIDEO of you at least lip-syncing to the track. This way, you can focus on the vocals when you do the audio and then just looking good performing in the video.
Directions for making your AUDIO track:
1. You will record yourself singing with YOUR PART's guide track, which you'll be listening to with headphones, so we can hear only your voice. Record with your part-specific track, not the full mix, just to be sure you're matching the right notes.
2. You'll likely need two devices for this: One to listen to the track (with headphones) and one to record your audio. Most phones record good audio, but if you have other high-quality audio recording devices, that's great too. Hit record on your recording device, then start playing your part track, then sing! I cannot emphasize enough how important it is that the guide track NOT BE HEARD by us in your recording. Wear headphones. We have to hear only you.
3. Record in a quiet place. Be sure there are no extraneous sounds like TVs, fans, washing machines, people talking, etc.
Directions for making your VIDEO:
1. In short, the goal for the video part is to record yourself singing (or at least lip-syncing) along to the guide track. Most phones nowadays have excellent cameras, but webcams work too, as well as any other higher-tech video equipment you may have. IF RECORDING WITH YOUR PHONE, RECORD HORIZONTALLY NOT VERTICALLY.
2. I will remove the sound from this video and use only the visual part to match it up with our audio. You don't need to wear headphones or earbuds in your video because it's OK to have the track heard here. You can mouth along, but I highly recommend at least singing quietly so it will look like you're actually singing. Again, it doesn't matter what you sound like here because I'll be keeping only the visual portion. Just make sure you're doing the right words.
3. Leave a few seconds on either end of the video to be safe. Don't just shut the camera off right away or walk off frame the second the song is done. Stay in the shot, smiling, for four or five more seconds so we have room to edit at the end.
4. Make sure you're in the center of the shot and that the camera captures at least your mid-chest and entire head.
5. There's no uniform requirement, but at least look presentable. Don't wear offensive clothing, and be mindful of what's in your background. If you have Kentucky-related or GRC attire, that would be great!
SHARING YOUR FILES WITH ME:
1. When you have created audio AND video recordings you're satisfied with, you can upload them to this Google Form: https://forms.gle/ynPYYb2PdiAcesm78
2. If you have issues submitting via the Google Form, you can email the attachments to me or share with a storage service like Google Drive or Dropbox. If you email me, send it [email protected].
3. I will try to respond to you within a day to confirm that I have received your tracks and that they work. If you have not heard back from me within a day, please contact me. I want everyone to be involved, and I would especially hate for you to record something only for me to never know you tried to send it. If you're not hearing back, double check the spelling of my email. Mistakes have happened before :)
